Is it Surprising That Someone Believed Them?

It goes without saying that the attack on Heaton Park Synagogue in Manchester should be condemned unreservedly. British Jews are not responsible for the war crimes and genocide taking place in Gaza, despite the best efforts of the claque of Zionist organisations to get people to believe that they are.

The so-called Jewish representative organisations like the Board of Deputies, the Campaign Against Antisemitism, Jewish Leadership Council and the astoundingly stupid Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis bear a large responsibility for what happened in Manchester when two Jewish worshippers lost their lives.

As far as I can ascertain from two AI programmes (Chat GP and Grok) there has never been a fatal attack on a Jewish synagogue before 2 October 2025. The person who carried out the attack, Jihad al-Shamie, is highly likely to have been motivated, not by racial hatred but by Israel’s war crimes and genocide in Gaza.

Contrary to Starmer’s suggestion that an age-old anti-Semitism and hatred of Jews is to blame, the causes are modern. It is Starmer’s supply of arms and weaponry to Israel and support of military collaboration with Israel that helped cause the murders in Manchester.

In November 2009 on the BBC’s Big Questions I attacked those Zionist organisations in Britain who spend their time trying to convince people that British Jews support Israel’s war crimes. This was reported by the Jewish Chronicle as ‘The Board of Deputies is to blame for rising antisemitism in Britain, according to a leading member of a Jewish anti-Israel group’.

What I said was that:

 “Of course there’s no justification for antisemitism, but there’s also no justification for the Board of Deputies calling rallies in support of the invasion of Lebanon and Gaza in the name of the British Jewish community. That causes antisemitism. [Jewish Chronicle 19.11.09].

Those who openly supported the murder and massacre of Palestinians in Gaza and Palestine in the name of British Jews are those who are ultimately guilty for the murder of 2 Jewish worshippers in Manchester.

The Board of Deputies has consistently supported every war crime of the Israeli state. It supported the murder of over 300 unarmed Palestinians in Gaza in the Great Return march. It supports Israel’s genocide and indeed penalised those few Deputies who eventually spoke out against the genocide.

The Jewish Chronicle has been even worse. It should be renamed ‘The Holocaust Denial Gazette’. It has repeatedly defended Israel starving Palestinian children to death claiming that they had medical pre-conditions. It is as if starving to death already ill children was justified. Previously only Hitler justified starving disabled children as part of his ‘euthenasia’ program.

It took the Times of Israel to rebut the lies of the British Jewish Establishment which had justified Israel’s policy of starving the population of Gaza. The ToI quoted two senior Israeli doctors, including the head of the pediatric gastroenterology unit at one of Israel’s premier medical institutions, who ‘insisted that al-Mutawaq’s severely emaciated state is not the result of his preexisting medical conditions alone.’

The attempt of the Zionist propagandists to justify Israel’s policy of starving the population, denying it was even happening, by suggesting that photographs of starving children were misleading in not mentioning pre-existing medical ailments was given legs by a particularly nauseating apologist for Israeli war crimes, David Collier. This was quickly followed up by the misnamed Honest Reporting Zionist site

The ToI quoted Israeli doctors as having

insisted that no child suffering from such diseases in Israel or most other Western countries would be so skeletal or display such severe malnutrition, and that he was likely in such condition due to an inability to access the proper nutritional supplements.

Prof. Dan Turner, the head of a pediatric gastroenterology unit and Deputy Dean of the School of Medicine at the Hebrew University stated that

You categorically do not find kids looking like that in Israel or Western countries. Even patients with background diseases should not be malnourished like that. A patient like that would be admitted to hospital.

None of this is to justify what happened in Manchester. There are those in the Palestine solidarity movement who buy into the Zionist lie that Israel is a Jewish state and that the British and US states are controlled by Zionists. Such people therefore believe that attacking individual Jewish Zionists in Britain or the US is the solution to Western imperialism’s support for Israel.

These lies are dangerously wrong. Israel is supported by Western elites, not because the British or American states are controlled by Zionists or subject to Zionist infiltration as Professor David Miller has stupidly suggested but because Western imperialism deems it in its interests to support the Israeli attack dog in the Middle East. It is in the interests of western elites to pretend that their support for Israel is all about their concern for Jews and ‘anti-Semitism’, the only form of racism that Trump, Reform and the Tories condemn. That this is all about a ‘Jewish’ state trying to protect itself, albeit over zealously at times, and tie that in with the interests of Jewish populations in the West.

It is convenient for those self-same elites to disguise their own interests in oil and geo-political strategy with concern for Jews. Jews have become the moral alibi for Israel's war crimes and the slaughter of thousands of children, the rape and murder of women and the torture camps for Gaza’s men.

Those who condemn the killing of 2 Jewish worshippers in Manchester should equally condemn the killing of Muslim and Christian worshippers in Gaza yet the genocidal Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis and the genocide supporting President of the Board of Deputies, Phil Rosenberg have said nothing about the attacks on places of worship in Gaza. On the contrary when 36 Deputies issued a mild letter of criticism in the FT Rosenberg had them disciplined and issued his own letter saying that ‘The Board of Deputies stands firmly with Israel… not THAT letter.’

The attack on a Manchester synagogue and the killing of two worshippers was no more reprehensible than Israel’s repeated attacks on mosques and churches in Gaza and the killing of thousands of worshippers. Unfortunately the only attacks that have gained publicity have been those on Gaza’s only Catholic church, the Holy Family Parish. Israeli snipers on 16 December 2023 killed two parishioners, mother and daughter Nahida and Samar Anton.

The Wikipedia article gives the background to the Israeli assault on the Holy Family church. Pope Francis rang the priest Father Gabriel Romanelli every night and condemned Israel’s attacks as terrorism.  Something which the new Pope Leo hasn’t done.

Israel’s liar-in-chief and Prime Minister, Netanyahu, ‘regretted’ the fact that ‘stray ammunition’ hit Gaza's only Catholic Church, killing three people sheltering there. No one else doubts that Israeli tanks deliberately fired shells at the Church which the IDF considers to be an obstacle to the ethnic cleansing of Gaza.

Although the Zionists will purport to condemn the attack on a Manchester synagogue in reality many, especially in Israel, will welcome it. There is a long history of Zionists seeing anti-Semitic attacks as a good thing in that it will drive Jews into believing that only a ‘Jewish’ state can protect them.

It is my sad duty to inform people that my old friend, Jonathan Hoffman was today, with another Zionist thug, Damon Lenzner, convicted of harassment and threatening behaviour.

I had intended to attend court tomorrow as two days had been set aside for the hearing but it would seem the pair decided that cowardice was the better part of valour as they agreed to plead guilty to the lesser charges in exchange for the CPS dropping the assault charges. Or maybe they had advance warning that I would be making an appearance!

They were both fined, sentenced to community and restraining orders. Lenzner was subject to a curfew and an electronic tag. They were also barred from approaching Sandra Watfa, the woman they harassed or Mr Haverty-Stacke, whom Lenzner punched. Judge Nigel Dean, said the pair’s actions amounted to “aggressive, bullying behavior.” Clearly he is a man who believes in understatement. It is a sad comedown for Hoffman who used to be Vice-Chair of the Zionist Federation and a senior member of the Board of Deputies of British Jews and its Defence Committee.

However Hoffman made the mistake of falling out with just about everyone and in particular criticising Mick Davies, Chair of the Jewish Leadership Council, a rich capitalist and now Treasure of the Tory Party. Asa Winstanley writes that ‘One supporter was absent though: former Jewish Labour Movement chair Jeremy Newmark. Writing sympathetically on a thread on Hoffman’s Facebook page in March, Newmark called the case “appalling.”

You might find this surprising since Hoffman is someone who has worked openly with the far-Right – Tommy Robinson supporters and Britain First’s Paul Besser as well as Pegida supporters Ambrosine Shitrit and Sharon KKKKlaff and Kahanist David Collier.  Newmark is a Labour Zionist.

However this is not so surprising. The differences between Labour and fascist Zionists have always been tactical.  Hoffman went out on a limb to defend Newmark when the Jewish Chronicle accused him of corruption and trousering thousands of pounds from a Zionist ‘charity’, the Jewish Leadership Council.

Suffice to say I have enormous sympathy for Newmark because the money would otherwise have gone into anti-BDS activity so it’s probably best that it went on champagne, taxi bills (unpaid) and good meals (kosher one hopes).

Hoffman on his blog today was unrepentant. He claimed that he and Lenzner had been acquitted of the assault charges.  This is a lie. The CPS had agreed to drop the charges in exchange for them pleading guilty to lesser charges.   However what is one small lie amongst many? Hoffman ranted that:

appallingly, the policeman on the case insisted that the case be tried as a racial and religious hatred case (Section 145, Criminal Justice Act).  In other words according to him we were there not because we found the antisemitic discourse of InMinds repugnant, but because we are Islamophobes.  What a disgrace:  the Court ignored it.

The message from this verdict is that neither pro-Israel advocates nor campaigners against antisemitism can trust the police or the CPS.

Hoffman finds it difficult to believe that his behaviour is Islamaphobic and probably believes that his fascist friends are also lovers of Muslims.

When he was first informed that he was going to be prosecuted Hoffman accused the Crown Prosecution Service and the Police of ‘institutional anti-Semitism’ (in fact he called the CPS ‘institutionally anti-Israel but since all opposition to Israel in Hoffman’s book is ‘anti-Semitism’ then that is what he really meant).

One thing that seems to have escaped all other reporting of the case is that Daman Lenzner’s representative is Daniel Berke. By one of these coincidences that plague those of us in public life, Berke is also the solicitor to Tommy Robinson.  I guess it’s a question of Berke by name and Berk by nature!

The article also explained in copious detail how both Confederation of Friends of Israel in Scotland (COFIS) and GFI were extremely racist and reactionary. From promoting Katie Hopkins, the columnist who even the Daily Mail fired, having described refugees as ‘vermin’ to joking about rape and alleging that Razan al-Najar, the 21 year old victims of Israeli gunfire in Gaza had been a rape victim murdered by her own side.

None of this however has deterred Scottish SUTR and the SWP from welcoming these Zionist organisations onto their march.  It is as if the SWP is incapable of making the connections between Zionism and racism against the Palestinians and racism in Britain. This despite the false anti-Semitism campaign of the Zionists to demonise and deligitimise Palestinians. Despite claiming to be Marxist the SWP do not understand that those who support the vilest anti-Palestinian racism might not be the best anti-racist allies in Britain.

6 years ago, when the SWP were in the middle of a crisis over the rape and sexual harassment of women in the SWP (a woman who alleged she was raped and then traumatised by the SWP was unable to even speak in her own defence at a special conference called around the issue) the SWP leadership around Alex Callinicos circled the wagons.  At that time they preferred to defend a close colleague accused of rape and sack and victimise those who opposed what was happening (a daughter of a close friend of mine was dismissed from their employment) rather than change their line.

I therefore do not expect that the SWP, because that is who runs and controls SUTR will change their minds. The SWP leadership is never wrong, even when it is wrong! And when the line changes, as it did over working with the anti-Semitic Gilad Atzmon, the record of what happened previously is wiped clean much like Stalin’s airbrushing of Trotsky.

Formerly the Vice-Chair of the Zionist Federation before falling out with big mining capitalist Micky Davis (& virtually everybody else!). He is willing to work with any fascist or anti-Semite if they support Israel.  He even defended Kevin Myers, the Sunday Times columnist sacked for anti-Semitism after having said that Jews never knowingly undersold themselves. Even the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism criticised Myers.

Mordechai Kedar

Kedar is a lecturer at Tel Aviv’s religious Bar Ilan University. He is the Administrator of the group and its founder. He achieved a certain notoriety when he proposed that one way to eliminate ‘terrorism’ was to rape the mothers and sisters of ‘terrorists’.  He held that this would be a deterrent given the ‘Arab mentality’ re the violation of women.  

In December 2014 Kedar was invited by Sussex Friends of Israel to speak to a meeting when he was touring Britain. According to the Jewish Chronicle in 2012  Kedar spoke at a conference alongside Tommy Robinson, then of the EDL, now of the Football Lads Alliance. Kedar not only urged White Europeans to have more babies but Muslims he declared were "multiplying - somebody said [like] rats". This is the kind of language Hitler used about the Jews but the SWP/SUTR apparently think that the leader of a group who keeps company with Kedar is fit to take part in an ‘anti-racist’ march.
