How Zionism used the Nazi holocaust to justify Israel’s holocaust in Gaza

Recording

How the Zionists Rewrote the History of the Holocaust

Webinar Tuesday 12 November 2024

There are also recordings of each individual speaker

Last Tuesday Jewish Network for Palestine and the Socialist Labour Network held a webinar on how Zionism has rewritten the history of the holocaust in order to justify genocide in Gaza.

It is difficult to think of anything more disgusting than using the memory of the Jews who died at the hands of the Nazis to justify the murder of Palestinian children and their parents in Gaza.

The Western powers – the United States, Britain and especially the German state - are happy to go along with this rewriting of history. After all it lets them off the hook and avoids western leaders having to answer uncomfortable questions such as why the US and Britain refused to admit Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany.

Stephen Kapos and other descendants of holocaust survivors

A recent example of this is how the riot and racist attacks of the Tel Aviv Maccabi fans in the Netherlands was turned into a second Kristallnacht, the Nazi pogrom of November 9-10 when 100 Jews were murdered and nearly all synagogues were burnt to the ground.

This could only happen because the attacks by Israel’s racist thugs on Arabs in Amsterdam was conveniently ignored, just as Israel’s war crimes in Gaza are ignored. The chants of ‘Death to the Arabs’ ‘May Your Villages Burn’ and ‘There is no school in Gaza today because there are no children’ somehow disappeared down the memory hole of Starmer, Scholtz, Biden and the Netherland’s idiot Prime Minister Schoof.

Instead the fightback of Amsterdam residents who gave the Israeli thugs a deserved thrashing was paraded as an anti-Semitic pogrom.

There was nothing more sick than the fascist leader of the Netherlands, who leads its biggest parliamentary party The Freedom Party, Geert Wilders, bemoaning the ‘anti-Semitic’ attacks whilst using it as a pretext to call for the deportation of Moroccans living in the Netherlands.

Dutch Nazi Party (NSB) marching in Amsterdam

Netherlands had the highest rate of extermination of Jews of any Western country in the holocaust.  This was in part because it had a relatively strong fascist party the NSB, which helped the Gestapo winkle out Jews in hiding like Anne Frank. It doesn’t take much imagination to recognise that 84 years ago, Geert Wilders would not have been a member of the Communist Party which organised the strikes against the Jewish deportations. Geert Wilders would have been a prominent leader of the Dutch Nazi Party, the NSB. The idea that this fascist would have joined Dutch workers in their strike against the deportations is absurd.

Ursula von der Liar

The same is true of the far-right President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. A member of the Christian  Democrats, whose antecedents lie in the Weimar conservative parties including the anti-Semitic DNVP which helped put Hitler in power. If Von Der Liar had been alive 90 years ago she would have been a cheer leader for the Nazis but today Jews are a useful stalking horse for western imperialism in the Middle East.

We organised this webinar precisely because western leaders and its prostitute media have turned the Nazi holocaust into a justification for their war plans and racism.

Tom Suarez

The first speaker was Tom Suarez who has written two excellently researched books, State of Terror and Palestine Hijacked.  Tom described Zionism as a cult and Anti-Semitism as its drug. He described the cruel cynicism of Zionism which opposed all rescue plans for Jewish refugees from the Nazis that didn’t involve Palestine as its destination. He recalled the opposition of David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s first Prime Minister, to the Kindertransport in 1938/9, after Kristallnacht, which saved 10,000 German Jewish children from death.

As Ben-Gurion explained to the Central Committee of Mapai, the Israeli Labour Party, on 9 December 1938:

If I knew that it would be possible to save all the children in Germany by bringing them over to England, and only half of them by transporting them to Eretz Yisrael, then I would opt for the second alternative. For we must weigh not only the life of these children, but also the history of the People of Israel.

Letter to the Jewish Chronicle  5 February 1993

This was the policy of the Zionist movement throughout the war. Another example he gave was of the deliberate sabotage of the efforts of Rabbi Dr Solomon Schonfeld, Chair of the Chief Rabbi’s Rescue Committee by the Board of Deputies, which at that time was controlled by the Zionists. Indeed its President Selig Brodestsky openly boasted of this sabotage. You can read about this in my book Zionism During the Holocaust.

HMS Patria

Tom described how the Haganah, the forerunner of the Israeli Occupation Forces, sank the Patria, because they preferred dead refugees to them being transported by the British to Mauritius. Over 250 of the 2,000 refugees died. The Haganah lied and claimed that the refugees themselves had sunk the boat because they preferred dying to living anywhere but Palestine. The habit of lying hasn't left them.

Tom emphasised how anti-Semitism is key to holding Jews in the diaspora in permanent fear, be it fake or genuine. The holocaust has been weaponised in order that Israel can continue its ethnic cleansing.

The Patria sinking in Haifa harbour

After the war the Zionists insisted that Jews be separated from non-Jews in the Displaced Persons camps and in the Jewish camps there was a reign of terror to force them to go, not to the United States or Britain but to Palestine. Those who didn’t want to go were beaten up and worse.

Rabbi Herzog, the Chief Rabbi of Palestine ran a kidnapping operation for Jewish children who had been placed with non-Jewish families during the war. They were torn from those families, regardless of their own wishes. In some cases children whose parents were in England were still forced to go to Palestine.

The second speaker was Haim Bresheeth, the Israeli academic who was recently arrested by the police in London as part of their attacks on Palestine solidarity supporters. The third speaker was Tony Greenstein, author of Zionism During the Holocaust and the final speaker was Stephen Kapos, who was a child survivor of the Hungarian holocaust. He was sheltered by a Christian group in Budapest.

Stephen Kapos

The session was chaired by Esther Giles from the Socialist Labour Network. On January 27 we will be holding a similar meeting on Holocaust Memorial Day. We are determined not to allow the Zionists a monopoly over the holocaust narrative in order to use one holocaust to justify more holocausts.

In 1941 the Stern Gang Twice Proposed a Military Alliance to the Nazis – One of its Leaders, Yitzhak Shamir, Became Israel's Prime Minister

In Stern: The Man, the Gang & the State We Learn About the Mentality Behind the Nazi-style Genocide in Gaza Today

Last summer I was contacted by Hossam Sarhan who asked if I would agree to be interviewed for a program on Yair Stern, the founder of the Stern Gang or Lehi, Loḥamei Ḥerut Yisrael (Fighters for the Freedom of Israel).

The Zionists have done their best since the Hitler era to suggest, on the basis of the undoubted collaboration of the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj al-Amin Husseini with the Nazis, that whereas they supported the Allies the Palestinians supported Hitler.

In fact there is no truth in this. It was the ardent Zionist British High Commissioner Herbert Samuel who appointed Husseini as Mufti despite the fact that he came fourth in the elections to the post in 1921.

Stern did his best to form a pact with the above

The British and the Zionists always preferred reactionary, feudal leaders of the Palestinians to secular nationalists like the Istiqlal Party which was severely repressed.

Husseini was a minor war criminal compared to Walter Rauff, the inventor of the gas truck which was used at the first extermination camp Chelmno. Rauff became an Israeli agent after the war.

This did not stop the Mufti playing a starring role in Yad Vashem's Encycolpedia of the Holocaust. The article on the Mufti is longer than the articles on Himmler and Heydrich combined and longer than the article on Eichmann. It is only slightly exceeded in length by the entry for Hitler. [Peter Novick, The Holocaust in American Life p. 158].

The Stern Gang was founded in 1940 from a split in another terrorist group, Irgun, which was commanded by former Israeli Prime Minister, Menachem Begin. Lehi was a Blood and Fire Zionist group and its rehabilitation in Israel today says everything about the Zionist attitude to genuine terrorism.

Ilan Pappe

I had just written a book, Zionism During the Holocaust, which contains a section on The Zionist Group that was openly pro-Nazi. This was probably why I was interviewed. Also interviewed by the program makers were Ilan Pappe, the foremost historian of Zionism and its misdeeds and Tom Suarez who has written a couple of very interesting books on Zionism and its antecedents, including its  terroristic proclivities. Another person who was interviewed was Yair Stern, the son of Abraham Stern, the founder of the Stern Gang.

The Stern Gang distinguished itself in 1940 by its offer, not once but twice to Nazi Germany to form a military pact. The idea was for them to recruit 40,000 European Jews and thence, with help from Nazi Germany, to invade Palestine and set up a Jewish State under the auspices of Nazi Germany.  Stern was convinced at that point that Germany was going to win the war and he wanted to be on the winning side.

The Program Interviewed Yair Stern, the son of Abraham Stern

Naftali Lubenchik, from the Stern Gang met a senior representative of the German Foreign Ministry, Otto von Hentig and Alfred Roser, a Military Intelligence agent, in Beirut on 11 January 1941. Lebanon at that time was under the control of Vichy France. The Nazis however ignored the proposal. The Stern Gang had previously sought to work with Mussolini although they were not alone in this.

Covering letter attached to proposed agreement between Stern Gang and Mussolini

The Irgun’s youth wing, Betar, had trained at the Italian naval base of Civitavechia as a result of  an agreement with Mussolini, as had some of Lehi’s cadre. The President of the Zionist Organisation, Chaim Weizmann had made no less than 4 trips to see Mussolini. The Zionist Organisation made it clear, in the words of Weizmann’s predecessor Nahum Sokolow, who also visited Mussolini, that the Zionists had no problems with fascism, just anti-Semitism (or rather too much anti-Semitism!).

Tony Greenstein being interviewed

On 11 January 1941, Vice Admiral Ralf von der Marwitz, the German naval attaché in Turkey, filed a report (the "Ankara document") conveying the offer by Lehi to ‘actively take part in the war on Germany's side’ in return for German support for ‘the establishment of the historic Jewish state on a national and totalitarian basis, bound by a treaty with the German Reich.’

Major Morton killed Stern

In December 1941 Nathan Yellin Mor was sent on another trip to Beirut to meet the Nazis but this time he was intercepted in Syria by the British and arrested. Thus ended the dreams of a greater Zionist and Nazi Reich. In February 1942 Stern was killed by the British Major Morton.

The Stern Gang became notorious for its bank robberies and assassinations. It had an eclectic political philosophy which combined extreme racism (Arabs were to become slaves under a Jewish master race) and yet an orientation to the Soviet Union at one time and what was termed ‘National Bolshevism’.

In November 1944 Lehi also assassinated the resident British Minister in Cairo, Lord Moyne, who was a personal friend of Churchill. The assassins were quickly caught and hanged.

A wanted poster for Stern

Churchill had been a long-term friend of the Zionists and he declared that:

If our dreams of Zionism are to end in the smoke of assassins’ pistols and our labors for its future are to produce a new set of gangsters worthy of Nazi Germany, many like myself would have to reconsider the position we have maintained so consistently.

In fact this is exactly what has happened. Zionism has indeed produced a new set of gangsters and they are led by the Al Capone of Zionism, Benjamin Netanyahu.  However this has not stopped British or American imperialism from supporting the Israeli state unconditionally.

Menachem Begin - Irgun leader

As I argued in the film Lehi was not a break with Zionism anymore than Begin’s Irgun had been. Their differences with the mainstream Labour Zionists were ones of tactics not principles. Indeed at times they were very useful for the Labour Zionists who could at one and the same time dissociate themselves from Lehi’s actions whilst at the same time supporting them.

This was true of the first and most famous massacre of Palestinians in the Nakba, in the village of Deir Yassin (now Givat Shaul) which lies literally a stone’s throw away from the Zionist holocaust propaganda museum, Yad Vashem.

Although Haganah dissociated itself from the massacre of over 100 Palestinians in a forerunner of what is happening in Gaza today, to the extent of David Ben-Gurion sending a letter of apology to Transjordan’s King Abdullah, they had in fact secretly agreed to the massacre, as Ilan Pappe explained in the program.

Supporter of the Stern Gang

Haganah had also agreed to the assassination of UN mediator Count Folk Bernadotte in 1948 although in public they had condemned it to the point of making Lehi a banned organisation, describing it as a terrorist group.

The Zionists today say that it was the Palestinians who had rejected the UN Partition Plan of November 29 1947 (UN Resolution 181). But this is one more Zionist lie. Not only did they expand beyond the boundaries of the Jewish State that the UN had agreed before May 1948 but they had also rejected the UN proposal that Jerusalem, being the home of all 3 religions, should be internationalised.

After Stern's death, the Stern Gang was led by a triumvirate including Yitzhak Shamir

This was rejected by all wings of the Zionist movement, hence the assassination of Bernadotte.

As Tom Suarez pointed out in the programme Bernadotte has personally saved 20,000 Jews from the concentration camps when he reached an agreement with Himmler that 100 white buses with Red Crosses on their roofs took Jews and other prisoners from the concentration camps in February 1945.

Bernadotte had single-handedly rescued more Jews than the Zionists (whose collaboration with the Nazis has since become notorious) yet that was no reason for them not to murder him. See Newsweek’s The Swedish Schindler: How Count Bernadotte Saved Thousands of Jews From Death

How you might ask has Israel remembered the Stern Gang and its founder Yair Stern. Bearing in mind that Israel considers itself at the forefront of the fight against ‘terrorism’ you would be forgiven for assuming that mention of his name would be verboten in Israel today.  Not a bit of it.

Abraham Stern Who Was Killed by the British

The street where Stern was killed by the British has been renamed Stern Street. "Avraham Stern” streets are ubiquitous across Israel. The town of Kochav Yair was established in his memory. Even the Israeli  Postal Service got in on the act issuing a stamp commemorating him with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu naming his firstborn son Yair.

In How should Avraham Stern be remembered?  Mark Regev, the former Israeli Ambassador to London, noted that the first Israeli Prime Minister, Ben-Gurion found some positive words with which to describe Lehi’s founding commander:

There is no doubt that Avraham Stern was one of the greatest and most admired people to emerge during the Mandate. I venerate… his steely courage and boundless dedication to Israel’s liberation.

Regev wrote ‘the once Zionist renegade is now Israeli mainstream’.

So when Zionists tell you that they oppose terrorism, it is worth remembering that they only oppose ‘terrorism’ when it comes to Palestinian violence. Terrorism committed by Zionists is fine because it serves their objectives, notably the ethnic cleansing of Palestine.

Yitzshak Shamir

The fact that Stern had tried to negotiate a military pact with Nazi Germany, of which Ben-Gurion was all too aware, was irrelevant. The fact that he was a racial supremacist was even more irrelevant. Regev asks innocently if Ben-Gurion was ‘

retrospectively whitewashing a Zionist terrorist merely because Stern was a committed Jewish patriot, seemingly confirming the dictum that “one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter”?

Regev’s conclusion was that

Stern’s attacks against the organs of British subjugation – officialdom, military and police – should be viewed as justified insurgency. Even in the politically questionable case of Lord Moyne, was not Lehi’s chosen victim the senior representative of British colonial rule?

Being a myopic Zionist Regev is unable to see why Palestinian ‘terrorism’ is equally justified if not more so since the Zionists were the catspaws and creation of the British state. Their fight against the British was not about a fight for freedom but about their right to expel and subjugate the Palestinians.

This is the hypocrisy that is now playing out in Gaza where Palestinian organisations like Hamas are deemed ‘terrorist’ but the actions of bombing schools and hospitals, cold-bloodedly killing civilians including children is seen as justified.

Zionism was born in blood and fire and it is likely to end that way too.

Hin & Ajam - Two Israeli Captives Who Said They Were Treated Like Queens - Compare that to Palestinian Prisoners Who Speak of Beatings and Torture

Almost immediately after the October 7 breakout of the Palestinian resistance from Gaza and the death of 1,139 Israelis [695 civilians, 373 military and 71 foreigners], we were told that October 7 was the biggest loss of Jewish life since the Holocaust. This was wrong on two levels.

Factually it was wrong. It was the cold-blooded murder of up to 3,000 Argentinian Jews under a neo-Nazi Junta (1976-83) that was the largest loss of Jewish life. However mentioning this would be inconvenient since Israel had a close relationship with the Junta, supplying it with weapons and training whilst ignoring the plight of Argentina’s Jews.

But secondly it is wrong because Israelis died on October 7, not because they were Jews but because they were occupiers. There is therefore not only no comparison but to even make the comparison trivialises and minimizes the Holocaust itself.

It was in Argentina that Jews died because they were Jews but about this Israel was remarkably unconcerned, refusing point blank to condemn the Junta’s anti-Semitism even to the extent of turning away Jews trying to escape to Israel (so much for Israel as a Jewish refuge from anti-Semitism)

None of this should come as any surprise to those acquainted with Zionism and the Holocaust. When I brought out my book Zionism During the Holocaust – The Weaponisation of Memory in the Service of State and Nation a year ago little did I know that Israel would launch a genocidal attack on Gaza using the Holocaust as its pretext.

Tomorrow I will give a talk alongside Tom Suarez, author of Palestine Hijacked and A State of Terror on Zionism and the Holocaust.  Whereas 99% of Jews saw the rise of Hitler as an unmitigated disaster and immediately launched a Boycott of Nazi Germany, the Zionist leaders saw events in Germany as a manifold blessing and were determined to get the most out of it. The first thing they did was to conclude, in August 1933, a trade agreement, Ha’avara with the Nazis

Noah Lucas, a perceptive Zionist historian noted in his book The Modern History of Israel (pp. 187-8) that:

‘As the European holocaust erupted, Ben-Gurion saw it as a decisive opportunity for Zionism... In conditions of peace,… Zionism could not move the masses of world Jewry. The forces unleashed by Hitler in all their horror must be harnessed to the advantage of Zionism. ... By the end of 1942… the struggle for a Jewish state became the primary concern of the movement.’

According to Yechiam Weitz, an Israeli historian, in the eyes of  David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s first Prime Minister, the war was ‘a rare opportunity to achieve the “Zionist solution”... to the problem of the Jewish people.’ [Jewish Refugees and Zionist Policy during the Holocaust, p. 355].

This meant for example that in Hungary the leader of the Zionist movement, Rudolph Kasztner, chose to suppress the Auschwitz Protocols, a document that proved that the deportation trains were not going to a fictitious resettlement area, Kenyermeze but to an extermination  camp Auschwitz.

This later became the subject of a libel trial in Israel when Kasztner sued someone who accused him of collaboration, losing badly. In the words of Attorney-General Chaim Cohen, who was also Kasztner’s lawyer:

If in Kasztner’s opinion, rightly or wrongly, he believed that one million Jews were hopelessly doomed, he was allowed not to inform them of their fate; and to concentrate on the saving of the few. He was entitled to make a deal with the Nazis for the saving of a few hundred and entitled not to warn the millions ... that was his duty… It has always been our Zionist tradition to select the few out of many in arranging the immigration to Palestine ... Are we to be called traitors? [Ben Hecht, Perfidy, p.159]

Eichmann, the chief exterminator, knew that the Jews would be peaceful and not resist if he allowed the Prominents to be saved, that the Train of the Prominents was organized on Eichmann’s orders to facilitate the extermination of the whole people. … if all the Jews of Hungary are to be sent to their death he is entitled to organize a rescue train for 600 people. He is not only entitled to it but is also bound to act accordingly.

Throughout the world, attempts at rescue met with obstruction by Zionist leaders who would cry ‘what about Palestine’ knowing full well that the British were barring Jews from entering Palestine. To the Zionists the Jewish refugees from Hitler were a battering ram to open the gates of Palestine to Jewish settlers.

According to their ‘logic’ if Jews could find an escape somewhere else, what was the point of a Jewish state. As a pro-Zionist historian Christopher Sykes, son of Sir Mark Sykes of the Sykes-Picot treaty wrote ‘from the very beginning of the Nazi disaster, the Zionist leadership determined to wrest political advantage from the tragedy.’ (Crossroads to Israel p.137).

In July 1938 President Roosevelt called a conference at Evian to discuss the Jewish refugee question. It was more a face saving operation by Western leaders than a serious attempt to find a solution to the danger that Germany’s remaining Jews were in. But the Zionists were afraid that the conference might find a solution. Sykes wrote:

Sykes wrote:

From the start they regarded the whole enterprise with hostile indifference... If the 31 nations had done their duty and shown hospitality to those in dire need then the pressure on the National Home and the heightened enthusiasm of Jews with Palestine would both have been relaxed. This was the last thing that the Zionist leaders wished for…. Even in the more terrible days ahead they made no secret of the fact, even when talking to Gentiles, that they did not want Jewish settlements outside Palestine to be successful... The Zionists wanted to do something more for Jews than merely help them to escape danger…. that such was the basic Zionist idea is not a matter of opinion but a fact abundantly provable by evidence...[ Crossroads to Israel, pp. 188-9. [my emphasis]

From Jewish State or Israeli Nation, Boaz Evron

A meeting of the Jewish Agency Executive on June 26, 1938 decided to:

belittle the [Evian] Conference as far as possible and to cause it to decide nothing…. We are particularly worried that it would move Jewish organizations to collect large sums of money for aid to Jewish refugees, and these collections could interfere with our collection efforts.

Boas Evron, Jewish State or Israeli Nation, fn 3, p. 260 quoting letter by Georg Landauer to Stephen Wise, 13.2.38. This shocking letter was written at the behest of Chaim Weizmann, the Zionist Organisation and Israel’s first President.

Ben-Gurion pulled no punches at the meeting:

‘No rationalizations can turn the conference from a harmful to a useful one. What can and should be done is to limit the damage as far as possible.'

Menachem Ussishkin of the Zionist Executive at the same meeting cited the fears of the future Chairman of the JA Rescue Committee, Yitzhak Gruenbaum:

He hoped to hear in Evian that Eretz Israel remains the main venue for Jewish emigration. All other emigration countries do not interest him… The greatest danger is that attempts will be made to find other territories for Jewish emigration. (my emphasis)

The JA was worried that Evian might succeed. ‘Its wish was for the conference to fail abysmally.’[Shabtai Beit Zvi, p.166, Post Ugandan Zionism on Trial] In a letter to Stephen Wise of 13 June 1938, George Landauer, later Director of the JA’s Central Bureau for the Settlement of German Jews, wrote of his concern that:

Even if the Conference will not place countries other than Palestine in the front for Jewish immigration, there will certainly be public appeals which will tend to overshadow the importance of Palestine.... it may bind Jewish organizations to collect large sums of money for assisting Jewish refugees, and these collections are likely to interfere with our own campaigns.

Yet despite having done its best to obstruct rescue of Jewish refugees during the war, the Zionist movement hasn’t hesitated to   exploit the holocaust since then for the purpose of creating a racial supremacist state based on the same principles as Nazi Germany. That is why I stated four years ago, to the Jewish Chronicle’s fury, that Israel was Hitler’s bastard offspring.

In a long letter to the Jewish Chronicle of 5 February 1993, Marcus Retter, a close associate of Rabbi Dr Solomon Schonfeld, who was Chair of the Chief Rabbi’s Rescue Committee, described the ‘tireless efforts’ of Selig Brodetsky, President of the Board of Deputies and Lavy Bakstansky, General Secretary of the Zionist Federation of Britain, to sabotage   Dr Schonfeld’s rescue efforts.

Dr Schonfeld, in a letter to the Jewish Chronicle of 29 January 1943 described how his efforts to mobilize MPs, Peers and Bishops were met by the ‘persistent attempt on the part of Professor Brodetsky and some of his colleagues to sabotage the entire move.’

The next week Brodetsky replied. Far from denying Schonfeld’s allegations Brodestsky justified them because

The intervention of an unauthorized individual, however well intentioned, in a situation of this sort, naturally brings confusion and may have damaging effects…’

What these damaging effects were Brodetsky didn‘t inform the JC's readers but we can guess.

It is no surprise that those who scabbed on the Jewish Holocaust should now draw the conclusion that one holocaust justifies another.

See you tomorrow at 7 pm.
