Open Letter to John McDonnell - What Purpose Do You Serve When Hauling Up The White Flag Is Your Only Strategy?

As Miners' Leader Mick McGahey Once Said, ‘They’ll Stop Chasing You When You Stop Running’

John McDonell in Surrender Mode with Andrew Marr – He Totally Accepted the fake ‘Anti-Semitism’ Narrative Whose Purpose was to Destroy Corbyn

Dear John,

On 24th February, the day Russia invaded Ukraine, Stop the War Coalition issued a statement calling for an end to the war, whilst addressing the underlying causes of the war, namely NATO’s expansion into Eastern Europe. NATO expansion had been contrary to repeated assurances that Bush, Baker, Genscher and others had given to Gorbachev at the time of German unification in 1991.

It was pretty mild stuff and yet 11 members of the Campaign Group who signed the statement, including yourself, were threatened by Starmer with loss of the Whip. Instead of standing up to him you all meekly complied. Not one of you had the courage to defy him.

On March 2 Starmer threatened you and Diane Abbot with the loss of the Whip if you spoke at a Stop the War rally. Again Starmer threatened you with loss of the Whip. Again you complied. Under Starmer’s Stalinist regime free speech has been abolished.

StWC described NATO as an offensive not a defensive alliance referring to ‘its record in Afghanistan, Yugoslavia and Libya over the last generation, not to mention the US-British attack on Iraq.’

These are incontestable facts but you didn’t even mount a protest at what had happened. What is the point of your gestures of opposition if at the end of the day you always back down?

The reaction of Starmer was predictable. He was elected as leader on the basis of 10 pledges, number 4 of which promised to ‘promote peace and human rights’.

No more illegal wars. Introduce a Prevention of Military Intervention Act and put human rights at the heart of foreign policy. Review all UK arms sales and make us a force for international peace and justice.

This was of course a lie. In a contest between Johnson and Starmer one would be hard pressed to decide who is the bigger liar. Yet you didn’t see fit to point these, simple facts, out.

NATO’s willingness to fight Russia down to the last Ukrainian was an ideal issue on which to make a stand but once again you bottled it. You could for example have pointed out that the United States and Britain have openly armed neo-Nazi militias in Ukraine. You could have asked how this squared with his commitment to rooting out anti-Semitism in the Labour Party. You did none of these things.

The obvious response to someone who makes a Dalek seem an empathetic human being was to tell Starmer to go take a swim in the River Thames. Preferably without a life jacket. But you did none of these things.

You and the Cowardly 10 chose to place a premium on your seats in parliament even though Starmer has made it clear that you are unlikely to be allowed to stand for Labour again.

To put your behaviour in context it is worth looking at what happened during previous witchhunts by the Right and how the Left responded.

In 1939 Sir Stafford Cripps and Aneurin Bevan refused to back down when they supported an anti-fascist united front with the Communist  Party. As a result they were expelled.

Bevan first and then Cripps were readmitted to the Labour Party.  Bevan went on to found the NHS and Cripps, who at one time rivalled Churchill in war-time popularity, became a member of the War Cabinet and in 1947, Chancellor of the Exchequer. As George Orwell wrote:

The outstanding thing about Sir Stafford Cripps, however, has always been his utter unwillingness to compromise his political principles.

I doubt if even your best friend could say that about you John. If there is one thing that marks you out it is your willingness to surrender. No principle is so precious that you won’t give it up.

Do you remember that toe curlingly embarrassing interview with Andrew Marr on Labour ‘anti-Semitism’? Not once did you challenge the assumption that Labour was overrun by anti-Semitism. You simply took as gospel what the supporters of Israeli Apartheid said.

Today we face not only NATO inspired carnage in the Ukraine but the possibility of nuclear conflagration if the US continues find pretexts for war in order to retain military and economic hegemony. That is why it has created the Aukus Pact as part of its pivot to Asia and undeclared war against China. Always of course in the name of ‘human rights’!

Graham Bash, who was recently expelled after 53 years membership, described you as the best Labour MP he had known, which makes me shudder as to the rest of them. You are 71. After 25 years in parliament you will have a good parliamentary pension.  You and Dianne Abbot will not suffer if you are deselected.  Who knows you could even win against Starmer Labour.

However bad Blair was Starmer is even worse. What is it that prevents you and what’s left of the Socialist Campaign Group mounting a political attack on Starmer, who is the Tory enemy from within, and his shadowy backers like Mandelson and Labour Friends of Israel?

Starmer himself is insignificant. A political nonentity. He has less charisma than the average mannequin. There is no lie that he is not willing to tell, nor any promise that he is not prepared to break.

He was a fervent Remainer but now he supports Brexit. He promised to ‘root out’ Labour ‘anti-Semitism’ and then he expelled record numbers of Jews! So much so that if you are a Jew in Labour then you are 5 times more likely to be expelled than non-Jews.

Luke Stanger, a vile anti-Roma racist was welcomed back to the Labour Party by David Evans, Starmer and local MP Peter Kyle

The only true thing Starmer has said since becoming leader is that he is a Zionist ‘without qualification’, i.e. a racist for whom Black Lives Matter was a ‘moment’. Starmer has readmitted to Labour racists like Trevor Philips, for whom Muslims are a nation within a nation and Luke Stanger for whom Roma and Gypsies are ‘a nasty blight on society.’ Through all of this you have kept silent.

If there is any one individual, bar Jon Lansman, who bears responsibility for the defeat of the Corbyn project, it is you. It wasn’t long ago when you were ‘tearing your hair out’ about anti-Semitism. You apologised for non-existent anti-Semitism. You told us that we should take the advice of the Zionist Board of Deputies on anti-Semitism even though the BOD has a proven record of attacking Palestinian supporters and anti-Zionists as ‘anti-Semitic’.

Even worse you and Lansman supported the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism which was designed precisely in order to conflate anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism.

It was as if you had loaned out your brain. I was the first Jewish person to be expelled from Labour as a consequence of the ‘anti-Semitism’ allegations. The first person to welcome my expulsion was Starmer. It was clear then that the concern of the Tory press and the Labour Right about ‘anti-Semitism’ was contrived. Yet you and the Campaign Group remained silent.

When Ken Livingstone was suspended instead of defending him you told him that the Jews were a forgiving people!  Perhaps, but Zionists aren’t that forgiving.

Did you ever ask why should those who demonised asylum seekers and Muslims should be so concerned about anti-Semitism? It was New Labour, with Alan Johnson as Home Secretary, who first created the ‘hostile environment’ policy that Theresa May ran with. If Jews were genuinely suffering from anti-Semitism, then the Tories and Labour Right would be the last people to complain.

Did you never ask yourself why The Times, whose editor Geoffrey Dawson forbade all criticism of Hitler’s anti-Semitism in the 1930s, was so concerned about ‘anti-Semitism’?  Or the Daily Mail which led with ‘Hurrah for the Blackshirts’ and employed a neo-Nazi, Katie Hopkins as a columnist, was a cheerleader for Hitler in the 30s?

Lord Rothermere, owner of the Daily Mail with friend

When Hitler ‘won’ the unfree elections in March 1933, the Mail wrote that if Hitler used his majority “prudently and peacefully, no one here will shed any tears for the disappearance of German democracy”. Yet we are supposed to believe that the Mail has now repented and it too is now concerned about Labour ‘anti-Semitism’.

What possessed you to praise the Board of Deputies, a body that has never organised a demonstration against genuine anti-Semitism? In October 1936, it advised Jews to stay away from the anti-fascist mobilisation against Moseley’s British Union of Fascists in the East End of London. The Jewish working class, which today does not exist, ignored the BOD. Did it not strike you as strange that their first demonstration against ‘anti-Semitism’ in March 2018 was against Corbyn?  A demonstration which those well known anti-racists Ian Paisley and Norman Tebbit attended?

It was obvious in 2016 that the British Establishment and the US and Israeli states had resolved that someone opposed to NATO and its wars could not be allowed to be the leader of the second major party in their closest European ally. Anti-Semitism was their chosen weapon.

Instead of standing up to the Right and its false anti-Semitism narrative you betrayed the Left and appeased the Right. When Margaret Hodge, whose call for a Whites only housing policy had been praised by the BNP, called Jeremy ‘a fucking anti-Semite’ it was you who opposed any disciplinary action.

This was the same Hodge that demanded that Starmer remove the Whip from Corbyn or she would resign. Is it any wonder, according to Owen Jones and Pogrund/ MacGuire that Corbyn refused to talk to you for many months as a result?

This is the same Hodge who covered up a child abuse scandal in Islington Council when she was leader and who libelled one of the victims. As Matthew Norman wrote With a past like hers, Margaret Hodge might show a bit more humility. Hodge’s reward was being made Children’s Minister by Blair, an act that defied irony yet nonetheless you sought to appease this despicable creature who is now the Jewish Labour Movement’s parliamentary representative.

A different path was always available to you. You could have supported Open Selection of MPs and got rid of Hodge and her detritus. The PLP could have been transformed. Instead you thought you could win over the Ian Austins and John Manns of this world!

It is no surprise therefore that as soon as Starmer barked you and the SCG jumped. The SCG has 35 MPs yet only 11 were even prepared to sign StWC’s statement. As Dylan wrote, you threw it all away.

Today it would be difficult to put a piece of paper between Starmer and Johnson. They are both liars and they are both ‘patriots’ who wrap themselves in the flag.  As Samuel Johnson observed, patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.

If you had an ounce of courage or principle you would challenge Starmer for the Tory he is. You would appeal over his head to Labour’s membership and start a campaign against this reactionary representative of the Deep State with his persecution of Assange, his protection of Jimmy Saville and his support for extraordinary rendition.

Instead you retreat in sullen silence. Indeed you even attempted to flatter him. ‘Keir’s got this exactly right’ was your response to Starmer’s Covid strategy. But what was Starmer’s strategy? He promised to support Johnson ‘in the national interest’.

By delaying the first lockdown Johnson killed 20,000 people. By decanting the infected into care homes he killed at least 30,000. Yet you praised him.

If you are not going to fight Starmer inside the Labour Party, the principled thing to do would be for you and the SCG to accept that Labour has abandoned even the pretence of socialism. Your one service to socialism would be to help in the formation of a new, socialist party.

The Labour Right is determined that there will never be a return to the Corbyn era and you seem determined to help them in that.

The only thing that puzzles me is why the Labour Representation Committee still keeps you on as their President. Perhaps its a case of misplaced nostalgia or just wishful thinking.

Fraternally,

Tony Greenstein

Hundreds Attend Demonstration outside Labour HQ against the proscription of 4 groups as Momentum pleads for unity with Starmer

The NEC's decision that those seeking office must undergo ‘anti-Semitsism training’ by the JLM is like asking Tommy Robinson for advice on race relations

Although it only came together at the last minute, the joint demonstration outside Labour’s Party in Victoria Street, London organised by Labour Against the Witchhunt, Labour in Exile Network, Jewish Voices for Labour and the Labour Representation Committee, was an unqualified success. It was a demonstration that people want an end to Starmer and Evan’s dictatorship and to see a return of democracy, free speech and justice in the Labour Party.

Up and down the country there are reports of rigged elections of conference delegates, suspensions and expulsions coupled with false accusations of ‘anti-Semitism’. The desperation of Starmer to expel and exclude the left is obvious to anyone with eyes to see.

Esther Giles of LIEN and friend

It was also reported  that the Labour Party is facing a financial crisis as a result of Starmer’s decision to destroy Labour Party democracy and expel and exclude members, resulting in a loss of over 100,000 members since his election. This was of course exacerbated by Starmer’s decision to pay £700,000 to John Ware and the ‘Whistleblowers’ of the infamous Panorama programme ‘Is Labour Anti-Semitic’.

As Corbyn remarked this was a political not legal decision. It was taken in order that the EHRC could produce a damaging report about Labour ‘anti-Semitism’. This was despite advice that Labour would win the court case. Starmer literally threw away £700K.

I understand that the party only has money for next month’s salaries. Yesterday the NEC also approved plans to sack 90 staff, one quarter of its total staff.

new leaflet from Labour in Exile Network - why Labour never had an antisemitism problem - it had a Zionism problem

Picket of  Regional Labour HQ in Bristol last month

Under Corbyn   thanks to an unprecedented membership growth, party finances were healthy.  Under Starmer they are dire. As Andrew Fisher, a former Executive Director of Policy under Corbyn wrote:

Starmer is running out of other people to blame. By inspiring no one, he has plunged the party into financial crisis and damaged the party’s electoral prospects.

There was real energy today amongst the 200+ people who attended and there was no sense of demoralisation. Tina Werkman was the first speaker from Labour Against the Witchhunt and then I spoke. I made a number of comments about the situation as I see it.

Starmer has nowhere to go and nothing to say which is why he is attacking the membership. Starmer is not Blair and the times are completely different between now and 1997. Starmer is a particularly wooden representative of capitalism within the Labour Party.

Although he was not there in person, Starmer was represented by a cardboard cut-out. As many people observed, the cardboard version had more of a personality than the living version!

There was the usual lying and distorted report in the Jewish Chronicle, a propaganda rag that seems to take pleasure in providing false news. For example it is true some anti-vax/covid conspiracists turned up with Piers Corbyn. We were unaware they would come and they brought their own PA, though in fairness they didn’t disrupt proceedings. We weren’t working together in some conspiratorial fashion even though the Jewish Chronicle would love us to do so.

Momentum statement on proscriptions

All groups at the demonstration, from LAW to JVL expressed their disappointment at the weak and flaccid statement from Momentum. Their appeals for unity with Starmer are frankly pathetic given Starmer’s attacks on the left and his inability to lay a glove on Johnson. Momentum offered no solidarity in their statement, did not suggest actually doing anything and failed to support yesterday’s demonstration. Despite the change in leadership there has been no real change in Momentum’s politics. It is simply refusing to face up to the crisis caused by Starmer’s leadership.

I posted a statement last night criticising Momentum’s statement. One typical response from John Brown said:

An EXCELLENT reply  Tony  - I can't be with you in London but you all have my TOTAL solidarity - I cancelled my membership of Momentum 3 months ago after hoping for a change but it is clearly beyond repair  !!

I'm not disillusioned or giving up  - the exact opposite is true - I been through defeats and partial victory before as we all have BUT I finally gave in to HOPE only to see it yet again cut down - Lansman was the warning sign but I held on  - now this begging for acceptance approval and accommodation of OUR views is a step to far for me !! So I resigned - but I will NEVER abandon my principles  - they've kept me sane for over 55 years  !!

It is clear that we have a  lot of work to do. There is the Rialto Resist Event from September 26-28, during Labour Party Conference in Brighton where we will be hosting a series of alternative social and political events that are immune to Zionist attempts to close down.

We need to follow up yesterday’s demonstrations with a series of pickets of the regional mafia that the Labour Party employs to police its membership. Assuming that there will be many of them left after Starmer’s purges.

Employing Racists to Conduct ‘Anti-Semitism’ Training is like asking Tommy Robinson to lecture on racial harmony

Perhaps the most disturbing decision by Labour’s NEC, was to make all candidates standing for public office or office in the party undergo ‘anti-Semitism’ training by the https://www.jewishlabour.uk/

The JLM is affiliated to the World Zionist Organisation. It describes the Israeli Labor Party as its ‘sister party in Israel.’ The ILP supports the separation of Jew and Arab. It has drawn up a separation plan. Separate development was what Apartheid in South Africa was.

What the ILP envisage is South Africa’s bantustanisation. As Ben White noted, when the ILP’s previous leader Isaac Herzog (now the President) ran for prime minister Labour had an advert boasting about how he “understands the Arab mentality”. On another occasion, Herzog declared: “I want to keep a Jewish state with a Jewish majority...I don’t want a Palestinian prime minister in Israel”.

Herzog also told his MKs that Labor needed to stop giving the impression that they were ‘Arab lovers’ and that “a false impression exists that we take the needs of Palestinians into account before the needs of the State of Israel.”

Greg Hadfield from Brighton

As +972 Magazine put it, the ILP’s “glory days included the Nakba [the ethnic cleansing of Palestine in 1948]”, as well as “conquering and settling the West Bank and East Jerusalem”.

The World Zionist Organisation has what Ha’aretz described as a ‘land theft division’.  This is who the JLM works with.

In other words the group that is going to lecture on ‘anti-Semitism’ is itself racist. It is like asking Tommy Robinson to run a training course on Islamaphobia. Or asking Dr Harold Shipman for advice on care for the elderly. The decision is an affront to Palestinians since according to the JLM, calling Israel racist is anti-Semitic.

It is as if Starmer and his clones hadn’t heard of the report by B’Tselem, Israel’s largest human rights organisation in January of this year describing Israel as ‘A regime of Jewish supremacy from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea: This is apartheid’.

Human Rights Watch followed this up with their own reportA Threshold Crossed - Israeli Authorities and the Crimes of Apartheid and Persecution’.

It is as if, in the days of Apartheid in South Africa, the Labour Party  had asked supporters of Apartheid to run a training session on combating racism. The decision by Labour’s NEC is racist and yet Momentum still refuse to call out the fake ‘anti-Semitism’ campaign despite 70% of Labour Party members refusing to believe the lies of the Israel lobby that Labour had an anti-Semitism problem.

One of those pushing for the JLM on the NEC is another racist, Luke Akehurst, who works for We Believe in Israel. When Israeli snipers were mowing down unarmed demonstrators in Gaza, children and medics included, he supported the murderers.

Andrew Feinstein

We now have open racists running the Labour Party and still Momentum sits on its hands as their co-chairs Andrew Scattergood and Gaya Sriskanthan pretend that they can unite with Starmer, a racist without qualification’.

The guest speaker was Andrew Feinstein, the Jewish former ANC MP under Nelson Mandela, who gave a powerful speech in our support.

Mad Mel Gharial, Tommy Robinson supporter with friend

There were a handful of Zionists present of the fascist variety led by Mad Melanie Gharial. They were sporting ‘For the Many not the Few Jew which I explained to them was anti-Semitic as it implied that British Jews are all part of the wealthy few. Mad Mel also told me that she has ‘two beautiful children’. My response was that it was fortunate that they didn’t resemble their mother! Melanie always looks as if she was unhappy. Supporting war crimes all day must take its toll, even on this supporter of Tommy Robinson!

RESIST at the RIALTO – Standing Up to Zionist Attacks on Freedom of Speech - Launch Meeting Today - Friday May 28 6 pm

Unlike Momentum’s World Transformed we Won’t Ban Events On Palestine and Zionism because we do stand for a World Transformed!

People may remember the lead up to the Labour Party Conference in 2019, which as it turned out was Corbyn’s swansong. I wrote at the time that The Suspension of Chris Williamson MP is Shameful – This May Be the End of the Corbyn Project

In the lead up to the Conference, under the approving eye of Jennie Formby and Corbyn, who by then had completely surrendered to their enemies, the Board of Deputies and the Zionists waged a campaign to physically prevent pro-Palestinian and anti-Zionist events.

Packed session at the Rialto in 2019

At the beginning of August Brighton and Hove Labour Left Alliance booked in turn 3 venues to hold a meeting with Chris Williamson MP, who had been unlawfully suspended by Formby and Corbyn. All 3 venues gave way to pressure

Justin Schlosberg, one of the speakers, accused those who forced  Waterstones to cancel the book launch of being 'book burners' see students in 1933 burning books in Nazi Germany

First was the Brighthelm Church & Community Centre, run by right-wing Christians. They agreed to a ‘request’ by local Blairite MP Peter Kyle not to host the meeting.

The Holiday Inn were next. Subject to a social media bombardment and then two Zionist thugs walked in threatening staff.

Jack Mendel, political correspondent of Jewish News pleased at another success for those who would destroy free speech

Then finally, on the day of the talk the Quakers’ Friends Meeting House quaked and gave in.

But we didn’t give in. We immediately called people to a rallying point and then took people from there to an open air meeting at Regency Square. The Zionists howled. Board of Deputies President Marie van der Zyl was left by herself holding a solitary placard about ‘anti-Semitism’. Leader of the Labour Council, Daniel Yates wanted us prosecuted for breaking the by-laws. All these ‘democrats’ hated free speech that called into question the Apartheid State of Israel.

Yet despite having to publicise the meeting at literally half a hour’s notice, nearly 200 people turned up outraged that a tiny group of Zionists had tried to prevent Chris Williamson from speaking. In the end the Zionists held a demonstration of 12 – half from London! We demonstrated we had mass support whereas the Zionists had the support of the elites.

We then decided that we had to hire an alternative venue for the forthcoming Labour Party conference which couldn’t be cancelled (strange that the Right  usually condemn Cancel Culture except when they want to do the cancelling). The Rialto Theatre stepped in and despite the normal Zionist Twitter harassment they stood firm.

Book Launch for Bad News for Labour that Waterstones cancelled

The Rialto is an amazing venue with a hall upstairs holding 100 people and a bar downstairs in which seminars can be held.

Ken Loach popped in for the standing room only book launch

In the 2 days we could hire the Rialto we had an amazing number of meetings. The LRC, whose meeting the Quakers had also cancelled, held their meeting at the Rialto. Chris Williamson, Jackie Walker, Kerry Ann Mendoza from The Canary spoke. Ken Loach popped in to the book launch. See WE DEFIED ZIONISM'S BOOK BURNERS – FREE SPEECH TRIUMPHED AT THE LABOUR PARTY CONFERENCE THIS WEEK

The Zionists had also forced Waterstones to cancel the book launch of Bad News for Labour. This was a book authored by 5 academics – Greg Philo, Mike Berry, David Miller, Justin Schlosberg and Tony Lerman, which demonstrated the lack of evidence behind the fake ‘anti-Semitism’ witchhunt. This was the last thing the Zionists wanted – proof of their campaign of lies and deceit.  So these book burners set about bullying Waterstones, who later apologised for their cowardice, when customers let rip their disgust at their decision.

This year we have booked the Rialto for 3 days. The Zionists may huff and puff but it will be to no avail.  Like all racists and fascists, Zionists hate freedom of speech. In Israel demonstrations are attacked by the Police and armed thugs.  In Britain the Board of Deputies whines about ‘anti-Semitism’ in tandem with racists such as Boris Johnson and Sir Starmer in order to attack our democratic rights.

The Resist! Event will host a launch event at 6pm on Zoom on Friday, May 28.

The speakers will be:

Becky Massey, Hove Labour Party activist expelled on a fake charge of “anti-Semitism” by @UKLabour – for a single tweet about Chris Williamson.

Kerry-Anne Mendoza, editor of The Canary, will talk about why #TheResistEvent is so important.

Tony Greenstein, the first Jewish socialist to be expelled by @UKLabour on a fake charge of anti-Semitism. Read his blog here.

Ben Steele, of Brighton and Hove Palestine Solidarity Campaign, will speak about the need for anti-imperialism Follow: @BrightonPSC.

Esther Giles, treasurer of the Socialist Health Association, will discuss the campaign against the privatisation of the NHS. Follow her on Twitter.
