Brighton Trans Rights March 2025 - Trans Rights Are Human Rights - No Pride in Genocide

On Saturday I took part in Brighton’s twelfth Trans Pride march, the largest outside the United States. People said it was about the size of last year’s which was 40,000.

There is an interesting article in the Guardian from 2014 on the origin of the march which is pretty much unique to Brighton in Britain.

Unlike the ‘Big’ Pride it isn’t dominated by corporate and capitalist interests and is strongly political as can be gauged by  the variety of different posters.

As we approached the clocktower where there were a few Zionist misfits with their Union Jacks and Swastikas, sorry Israeli flags, the chants turned to No Pride in Genocide and Free Palestine alongside Trans Rights are Human Rights.

The Zionists, a mixture of Christian and Jewish Zionists, all 6 of them had a problem. Some tried to pretend that Israel was  gay friendly whereas the Christian bigots believe that Gays and anything other than strictly Heterosexual is an abomination.

The  march, a circular one, ended up in Victoria Gardens.  Below are some photos.

  1. We need to stand up for each other, Trans and Palestinians. When we select certain groups for the purpose of ''othering'' we are going down a slippery slope that ends in ourselves being ''othered'' by the dominant orthodoxy.

    1. Trans and Palestinians aren't similar, please stop reaching.

    2. It's not a question of whether trans or Palestinians are similar. Obviously not but many Palestinians will be trans and the question is whether the trans movement goes the way of much of the gay movement and acts as a cover for Zionism.

  2. Sorry Tony, but you've lost me here - what exactly are Trans rights, and what's the link to Palestine ? My understanding, is that what people mean by the former, is usually things like access to puberty blockers and women's spaces.
Solidarity is crucial, but not sure I'm on board with something (the trans thing) that seems so big on identity politics. Happy to use people's pronouns and accepting how people self id, but stop at colonization of biological women's spaces, and the medicalization aspect.

  3. I'm not trans but trans rights might be things like access to hormonal treatment, not being discriminated against in daily life. I don't accept the concept of 'colonisation' of women's spaces. This seems to fall into Sunak and others' reactionary ideas of god made man and woman and nothing else. If someone is not happy with the body they are born in or the identity they are give then they should not be prevented from identifying as another gender. Sex is not immutable

That's what I thought. Surely, if someone has a mental disorder that causes them to experience difficulty about their identity, some sort of therapy might be better. It's especially troubling when trans try to push their movement on kids.

"not being discriminated against in daily life"
Your going to have to define what you mean by "discrimination". If it's not being able access hormone treatment, or go to a women's prison or take part in women's sport, Id say discrimination isn't necessarily a bad thing.

"I don't accept the concept of 'colonisation' of women's spaces"
And no ones asking you to.

"This seems to fall into Sunak and others' reactionary ideas of god made man and woman and nothing else"
It's not reactionary to spot the obvious scientific fact of sex. If people view that through the lens of religion you can take that up with them.

"If someone is not happy with the body they are born in or the identity they are give then they should not be prevented from identifying as another gender"
Sure, if people merely wanted to self identity as x, y, and just go about their business that's fine and no ones saying otherwise. What's being called into question is the medicalization of it and this attempt to encroach women's spaces, as well as trying to indoctrinate kids.

      "Sex is not immutable"
      Sex is a biological reality.

Youre usually a good advocate on Palestine, but this ones not your best. It's disappointing, veering into disrespectful as Palestinian struggle is linked to the broader anti imperialist fight, not niche identity politics, like the trans issue is.

  4. I think we are going to have to disgree. I don't accept that being transgender means having a mental disorder or that sex is simply biological or that trans people are simply encroaching on women's space either
